I’ll be in Ottawa on October 1 for an embassies’ book club event. It turns out the various embassies take turns featuring authors, and the Lithuanian embassy decided to feature me for their club one evening at the Ottawa Public Library.

I’ll be talking about Buying on Time Again because it is a light piece of work about immigration to Canada in the postwar era, and it’s pleasant to get a crowd laughing. Of course, my novel, The Seaside Café Metropolis came out more recently, so I’ll devote a little time to that too.

Afterwards, I’ll roll down the highway to the Kingston Writers’ Festival to interview authors onstage.

Then, it’s a hop skip and a jump across the Atlantic, first to work for a few days on a parliamentary advisory commission in Vilnius and then to continue up to Šiauliai for research for a book whose working title is Shattered – about heroes and villains within my father’s generation between the wars.

Fiction or nonfiction? It depends how much I get out of my sources. I already have hundreds of pages of archive material such as hand-written Russian court documents, ably translated and transcribed by AI. But I need to find out more of the human dimension.
